2020 Dayton Celtic Festival has been canceled
Sad news tonight, as downtown Dayton's largest summer festival has been canceled amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
Dayton Celtic Festival, held each year at Riverscape Metropark had been scheduled for July 24-26. The United Irish of Dayton Celtic Festival committee released a statement this evening which read as follows:
"It is with a heavy heart that we must announce the cancellation of our 2020 Dayton Celtic Festival. Planning for the 2020 festival began even before we concluded the 2019 Dayton Celtic Festival and we had a great event planned for you. Due to the many moving parts of an event this size a decision on whether to proceed or not had to be made at this time with the information available. With the health and safety of our festival attendees, volunteers, artists, and vendors our paramount concern, it was unanimously decided by our committee that cancellation was necessary. Many of our committee members have been working on this festival since it began in 2002 and we are heartbroken that we must take this action but we cannot in good conscience proceed.
We sincerely thank you for the support that you have given us over the years. We have begun planning the 2021 Dayton Celtic Festival and hope to see you there on July 30 - August 1, 2021."
An estimated 90,000 people visit the three-day festival each year at Riverscape. The popular family festival celebrates the culture of Ireland, Scotland and Wales through authentic Celtic music, dance, food, Irish beverages, craft beers and more. The event offers four stages with continuous live entertainment featuring several headliner bands, as well as regional and local musical and dance groups.
