In honor of Earth Day (April 22), Wright Library is offering two programs on April 20 to guide you on the path of supporting the environment.
Family Fun with Earth Day - Drop in between 10:30 a.m. and Noon for hands-on crafts and activities that celebrate Earth Day. Attendees will have the opportunity to pick up a free COSI Water Activities Kit to extend your learning at home (one per family while supplies last). Made possible by the State Library of Ohio, the Ohio Library Council, and COSI. Event is geared toward families with children in preschool-grade 6.
Quilt Lawns & Ancestor Trees - From 2-3 pm, Dr. Ryan McEwan from the University of Dayton Department of Biology will share how your yard can support the environment with Quilt Lawns and Ancestor Trees. A Quilt Lawn is a biodiverse, never sprayed, selectively mown, lawn where turf grass is interspersed with naturally occurring, short statured, flowering plants. "Ancestor Trees" have lived in the Miami Valley for thousands of years and encourage natural habitats while looking visually spectacular.
Between events, visitors are encouraged to walk the library's Native Plant Gardens (sun and shade) to learn more about native plants and their importance in promoting pollinators. Librarians will also be available to recommend books about native plants, birds, insects, and other areas that support sustainability.
