Four notable dishes at Ollie's Place
Opened last week by Mike Schwartz, owner of Belmont Party Supply, Ollie’s Place has 60 rotating craft beers on tap, a full service restaurant, a large selection of whiskeys, and a retail wine and beer carryout. Future plans include selling cigars and an outdoor patio.
The spot is named after Mike’s grandfather Ollie who was a meat-cutter and local business owner. Mike Schwartz and his wife of 36 years, Donna, have together built one of the country’s most successful craft beer retail stores in their hometown of Dayton, Ohio.
Their newest venture has a warm cozy atmosphere with seating for 140 people. The staff was friendly, plentiful, and very attentive. The food came out fast which was impressive for opening day.
Half-Growlers and Growlers are available for most beer except limited kegs. Sizes range from 4 oz. tasters to 12 & 16 oz. glasses depending on the beer. Make your own flight to try a variety of beers.
The menu includes: Appetizers, Salads, Entrees, Sides, and Desserts. Our four notable dishes at Ollie's Place are:
1.) Herbed Goat Cheese and Baguettes: This flavorful appetizer consisted of a creamy goat cheese combined with herbs and marinara sauce. It’s served with a toasted mini baguette loaf that is toasted and sliced. The size was large enough to share between a few people and guaranteed to satisfy your cravings.
2.) Tempura Bacon Wrapped Asparagus: This delicious appetizer was the biggest hit at our table! Each asparagus spear is wrapped with bacon, dipped in tempura batter, and deep fried. Don’t share this appetizer, enjoy every morsel.
3.) Ollie’s Lump Crab Cakes: Crab cakes are always a crowd pleaser and these will not disappoint. You get two large lump crab cakes. Nicely seasoned, cooked to perfection, and the taste screams freshness! Served with remoulade sauce.
4.) Spicy Shrimp Tacos: Order comes with three tacos. Can substitute chicken if shrimp is not your thing. Spicy Shrimp, Fire Roasted Corn Relish, Tomatoes, Monterey Jack Cheese, and topped with Chipotle Aioli.
